On the Great Seal of the United States (right) are the Latin words e pluribus unum — "out of many, one." And how true! The United States of America is a patchwork of many different peoples, communities, cultures, and traditions, all bound together into one nation under God. Each of the country's 50 states, plus its capital, Washington D.C., and overseas territories, are unique yet united. The United States would not have become one of the most successful nations on Earth had it not been for diverse voices and teamwork. As the state motto of Kentucky states, "United we stand, divided we fall."
