A symphysis (/ˈsɪm.fɪ.sɪs/, pl.: symphyses[1]) is a fibrocartilaginous fusion between two bones. It is a type of cartilaginous joint, specifically a secondary cartilaginous joint.

Unlike synchondroses, symphyses are permanent.[2]
